I loved this book…however. On a trip to Moab 3 wks ago I hiked to the location of False Kiva as described in the book and originally described by Tom Till. It was a very windy, gusty day with gusts over 45 mph. I nearly pulled a Thelma & Louise without the T-Bird under me. With the wind and final assault up the slickstone, death was brought into the equation & I aborted. Also, I got lost for an hour and everything I owned was coated in sand. Avoid this recommendation when there is even a hint of wind. This advice comes from someone with 55 missions over North Viet Nam.

Not much more to add than has already been said. This book is great. If you are traveling to southern Utah – get it!

After visiting Utah last summer on vacation I understand why people told me I’d never be the same after visiting Utah. It is beautiful!
Since I could only see so much of it in the few days we allocated to the parks, I’ve spent a lot of time on the internet looking at the places we missed.
I thought I’d covered most of Utah pretty well, but after ordering this book on a whim, I found dozens of places I never knew about.
Some say its a book for photographers, but it exposes so many of the hidden wonders in Utah, its a keeper.
My only gripe about the book is that the color pictures are small, but they do sell a companion CD with only the pictures on it. It’s as much as the book itself, but a whole lot less expensive than visiting all of the places yourself. Especially true when you factor in being at the site when the light is proper, not to mention the expertise of a professional photographer.
I also bought volumes 2 & 3 for Arizona/New Mexico and for Colorado. I’m just as happy with them as with this volume 1.

Our family had planned for 7 days in southern Utah and we were having difficulty deciding on the many options available. Many of the guide books and hiking guides did not provide the information we were looking for – out of the way photography locations. This book is a fantastic resource for those individuals looking for sites with incredible viewing possibilities, many of which are not well published. The author also provides tables outlining road conditions so one can plan a visit based on their vehicle capability. The only thing missing from the book is a formula for controlling the weather to improve your photographs. This book became our primary planning and resource tool and provided photography opportunities we would have otherwise missed using our other planning guides. Thank You!
