  2. I loved this book…however. On a trip to Moab 3 wks ago I hiked to the location of False Kiva as described in the book and originally described by Tom Till. It was a very windy, gusty day with gusts over 45 mph. I nearly pulled a Thelma & Louise without the T-Bird under me. With the wind and final assault up the slickstone, death was brought into the equation & I aborted. Also, I got lost for an hour and everything I owned was coated in sand. Avoid this recommendation when there is even a hint of wind. This advice comes from someone with 55 missions over North Viet Nam.

Our family had planned for 7 days in southern Utah and we were having difficulty deciding on the many options available. Many of the guide books and hiking guides did not provide the information we were looking for – out of the way photography locations. This book is a fantastic resource for those individuals looking for sites with incredible viewing possibilities, many of which are not well published. The author also provides tables outlining road conditions so one can plan a visit based on their vehicle capability. The only thing missing from the book is a formula for controlling the weather to improve your photographs. This book became our primary planning and resource tool and provided photography opportunities we would have otherwise missed using our other planning guides. Thank You!

I bought 1st edition many years ago. I like them a lot. Then I bought the 2nd edition before my recent trip to the southwestern. What I like most about the new books are the color photos and more new sites. But I think the author could have done better jobs. Many years has passed since his 1st edition and GPS is very popular now. He should really add more GPS coordinates for some remote places. Reading his books alone is not enough to find the secluded places. Unfortunately, that was my case for my trip. Later I found some web sites acctually gave much more detailed information. That said, I think Laurent Martres’s books are still valuable reference.
