Beware of 0.45x 37mm wide angle lens for HD camcorders — 0.45x 37mm wide angle lens (40USD or ~29EUR on eBay from HK) Canon HF11 PAL — The lenses are cheap but the image quality of my HF11 becomes dreadful (distortion and out of focus). The footage is almost good enough for YouTube (due to the strong video compression) but it is not acceptable on a good Full HD screen (without such a strong video compression). I did try different settings but I could not make it much better. I may upload a video showing the effect of altering the aperture.

The HF11 has a 37mm mounting thread which is pretty standard. Unfortunately, I have no more lenses to test and I have no short-term plans to buy more lenses. Anyway I found that (un)screwing lens is not very practical (you should not zoom in with the wide angle lens attached).
If you are going to buy a wide angle adaptor forget cheap junk and try this one: Raynox HD-5050PRO. It is much more expensive but I read that it is decent enough (search for: canon-hf100 blogspot wide angle converter).

thanks for the warning in the description I was looking at these on eBay and was surprised by the rather low prices, thanks for posting this saved me the trouble of discovering the poor quality of the lenses myself.
