High Def. Hard Drive Camcorders – WATCH BEFORE YOU BUY!

it and all that, and I had a hell of a time. Even with a new graphics card my PC still couldnt handle editing raw HD footage. My thoughts: Don’t buy a hard drive camcorder that records HD if you want to EDIT your footage! Hard drive HD camcorders seem good if you want to just shoot and burn your footage directly to DVD. Wait a while on buying one especially if you are unfamiliar with HD in consumer camcorders. Please post your thoughts, or if you found / have a good smooth method for …

i just purchased a jvc everio gz hd300 and it too records straight to the hdd. quality is amazing in outdoors not to great in low light. anyways, i edited the mts files with CYBERLINK POWER DIRECTOR..plenty of options and videos look awesome.

I have the hv30 and it is great since it uses mini dv tape and is easy to capture and edit. quality is amazing, better than panasonic’s professional CCD camcorder the DVX100.

Matt, I’m dealing with this issue too: Canon hg10 hard drive… trying to figure out what to do with it. How is it going with your hv20?

  8. Bonesone4 says:

any comments about the software called VoltaicHD?It’s suppose to convert the mts files to .movs.

Im thinking of buying the HG20 and I also wondered how I would go about converting these files.

Hey. I am not familiar with premiere elements 7. I use premiere cs3 and it works like a charm. funny you mention the canon hv30, i have the exact same camcorder now for all my movie needs. A W E S O M E camcorder… best consumer camcorder on the market, hands down – if you don’t believe me- read all the amazing reviews this camcorder got online. :D

I really like your short films, I’d like to see more… Also, can you tell me what HD camera you have?

  12. stanleymoore382 says:

These camcorders are ahead of the times, ya need a good strong pc, to run and convert the mts files, then edit with good softwear. Plan on spending some bucks, No quick fix. that I know of?
to get da job done. :)

  13. matt3756 says:

Yea, I don’t know how these cameras are even still popular. Unless you get the person who just wants to shoot and burn their raw footage to dvd or something like that. Don’t even attempt to edit with one of these memory card cameras unless they are the cheap point and shoot $100 ones.

  14. Biffsucks says:

I feel your pain! I got an Canon HF10…Having fun shooting…but editing sofar has been impossible! Everyone is telling me I need to buy a Mac to handle it…Damn…

  15. CAJUNNSC says:

Dont do it the mini DVD is shit as well. trust me got one collecting dust now, paid 5 bils not worth 2 now. Mini Ds are expensive and you still deal with crap just different crap…anyway, Only one way to do this as of today convert the dam footage and so on…no work around period!

  16. CAJUNNSC says:

Okay my thoughts. And first of all yeah me too pissed. These friking companies want us to buy their products and don’t even offer software to use the dam footage we produce what a crook of crap. Then not only that they also all have different MTS preparatory formats now what the hell is this all about. Man can we not just get something for a change that works out the box like we thought it did we we purchased it…dam! WTF right! U telling me Sony Canon Panasonic cant afford to do this. BS !!!

  17. matt3756 says:

well in my opinion it is easier to just capture it by firewire and have a high quality editable file ready to edit. I never have luck with conversion software.

  18. REALITYCHECKRECORDZ says:

yup i had a big drop in qaulity too but i was useing a sony not a cannon, but in terms of space, its great 6G lot of space you can record tell the cows come home but useing mini Dv is sooo uuuggggg i hate tapes

Hi, thank you for your help, but I had something wrong with my computer, so I was told that I might have to reinstall windows xp pro. Well I formated my drive and did a complete new install, and its working very good now.

  20. matt3756 says:

Im not really sure. Your video editing software should recognize the camcorder. Try google and search for your camera name and model then put the word driver after it, see if you find anything. Did it come with a CD?

  21. blade75964 says:

Hi, how its going, thank you. Well I got the camera and having a bit of a problem, just thought you might be of some help. you can take a look at my video I posted about it. I just bought a new firewire 3 port pci card and the 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable. but when I connect it to the camcorder, it keeps asking me for a driver, and I called sony, but they say it does not have a driver. I am really stuck on thine one, and hope you might be of some help on this. Thanks

    Paul.

  22. blade75964 says:

Thank you, very helpful. My computer should be able to handle it. I have A A-Series motherboard Gigabyte board with 2 gig of ram, 360 harddrive, e-GeForce 7300 Gs vidoe card made by Nvidia with 256meg ram. 3400+CPU. So I am thinking that my computer should handle it. Anyway thank you for your help.

  23. matt3756 says:

if it records to mini-dv it should be fine. I remember in my college class we were experimenting with the big high end sony HD camcorders that recorded to mini-dv and we ended up capturing standard mini-dv quality for it to work if I recall right. But like if your computer can’t handle capturing HD quality, you can always capture standard mini-dv quality which is good.

  24. blade75964 says:

Hi, good video. I have a question, I bought this one on ebay,,, Sony HDR-HC3 HDV 1080i High Definition Camcorder, and wanted to know if this is a good camcorder to edit with. This one takes the SD card, and also records on mini DV tapes. I also have sony vegas 8 pro. Would this camcorder would be good to edit my vids. Thank you.
